Full Circle
Can you imagine how I felt when I realised that the Optometrist I was sat in front with Tara was the very same lady who misdiagnosed her as long-sighted at the beginning of August? My immediate urge was to ask to see someone else, but I resisted and let the woman come up with a plan for helping Tara with her squint (she's to get stronger glasses). I'm quite proud that I managed to stay calm.
It wasn't until the end of the appointment that I told her that King's were somewhat incredulous at her original diagnosis, given Tara's symptoms at the time (squint, not walking, vomiting and headaches). I asked her why she didn't check Tara's Optical Discs, but she defended her actions by saying that she did that indirectly by getting Tara an appointment with the Optician the next day. Personally I think that's nonsense, as my wife tells me that the Optician who saw Tara was very surprised that she had not been told of Tara's symptoms. But I wonder if she actually believes she played a part in Tara's recovery?
However, I can't help thinking of the symbolism of the meeting. I now have the feeling that we've come full circle from that fateful week of her original appointment at the Sussex Eye Hospital on the 4th August 2009, and that a chapter in Tara's recent health problems has been closed. It's a part of our lives that I'm quite glad to close at that.
It's now time to focus on Tara's continued upward curve......
